Here's a remark I've made here before, agree or not:
Once a tuba player acquires a job in a symphony orchestra, they can easily keep that job (after the probationary year) by
- mostly playing within five or so cents of pitch...either side
- not playing in rests, and playing all the stuff that they are supposed to play within a dynamic marking or so of the proper dynamic
- showing up on time with the correct clothes and good hygiene
- not offending the maestro, colleagues, nor patrons...in general,
- withholding comment and being nice

I can think of no other job in a symphony orchestra that is probably this easy to keep, once acquired.
