a word here and there in my initial post seemed to prompt tangents....bottom line is that the collitch crowd will need formal, paid, verifiable playing experience prior to being asked to come fill a slot. IN OTHER WORDS, its like the majority of professional work in the u.s. - res, work history, references. IMO orchestras are better off NOT having to do these goofy, expensive audition cycles. Most of them anyway. There are far more efficient ways to identify compatable, capable employees....
