Curious,
When I first started posting about a yeat ago, I got a loty of flames because I
listed some of the places I traveled for free or nearly free or at a extreamly
reduced rate. I wanted to encurage Kids to play in amature bands after graduation
as that is how I got to play at several places I would never have qualified for
as a professional.
First I was called a bragger, then the turm "GIG" was exammened and I was
belitteled as only having bin paid wages for My ten day job at the Santa Cruz
Beach Boardwalk and having bin willing to pay to play which seems unexceplabaly
foolish to some on this board.
I ask You: As a construction laborer How else am I going to get to go to the
Caribian three times, the mediteraian twice, the south pacific once, middle europe
twice, get asked to dedicate two great proformance halls, and not only play the
Whitehouse by special request of the president BUT ALSO be invited to play for
the Pope in the first concert band to ever play durring a Wensday mass outdoors
at St. Peters Basicila ?
Without band music I would have dropped out of highschool and proubabaly dropped into a life of crime, (My "drinkin' instructor" sure did!)
By the way, I don't take any cridit for getting any of the gigs. The comunity
Band in near by Watsonville CA has the world's most aggressive band manager and
He has become a travel agent specializing in group traval (not just bands).
He is on the Web under gobal music exchange.
There you have it. The only bragging I didn't do this time I'll hold for later-
that having to do with the horn(s) I've played at these various "Gigs".
Here's hoping the right people read this and are inspired.
Yours truly,
Brian "Goodgigs" Kane
