When was the last time a tubist was asked to trill from low Bb to low C? Have you ever heard of the phrase "comparing apples and oranges". Operation of a flute trill and operation of the tuba in its lower octave is as different as night and day. Obviously in most instances the thumb is less agile then the index finger. However, we are talking about a specific case here. 95% of the time the 5th valve is used in conjunction with the pinky. Using the thumb and the pinky of the same hand is more agile then using the pinky and index finger of the opposite hand.
