I found that the 186 was a little more stuffy-feeling and couldn't put out quite as much sound as the 187, although the stuffiness could be alleviated by using a mouthpiece with a larger throat. The 187 is a little easier to play, and has a proper balance of resistance and openness to make it a comfortable player. Actually, the 191 was better than either of these horns, but since I'm a big guy, the valve position hurt my wrists a bit too much. Miraphones(except for certain BBb 190's) are generally fine horns and are great for the money.
