I used to use Space Filler, a silicon oil, then I changed to Alisyn for a while. Now I use Al Cass. The difference in performance, I think, is minimal, but maintanence is easier with the petroleum based product. The silicon builds up over time, although you don't use as much of it. Also, the silicon doesn't evaporate like the petroleums will, so if you use silicon and you put your horn away when you go out of town for vacation or whatever, you have to clean the valves pretty well when you return. One thing to be aware of, if you use the silicon in conjunction with vaseline for your slides, your in for trouble. The vaseline will make its way to your valves and gel up with the silicon. Yuck. Try a lanolin or other non petrolium based slide grease if you choose silicon for the valves.

My .02 turned into $1.95. I hope it helped.
