You don't want a step anywhere in the horn but a step in the smaller tubes can have a big impact. One of the things i like to do is use different backbores for different
groups.One of my BBbs and my CC work well with a Bach 18 so I have one stock and one that
I opened the throat up to 3/8". As you might guess I use the bigger throated version in large groups.The same holds true for the Bach 22 that I use in my 983 besson.If you've got a spare mouthpiece that you wouldn't mind messing up it's worth a shot.Most everyone who has tried one likes how it opens up the lower register.
