When I started this conversation, I did not mean that that you should use a horn that sounds great but plays in the key of C and B at the same time. I just think that all of the talk about using the dreaded alternate fingerings is funny. If we played bassoon, we would have volumes of alternate fingerings to think about. I do not let alternate fingerings detract from my technique, musicality or any other aspects of my playing. I have never played a tuba that did not have to be manipulated to some degree. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not taking care of business. I think that most of you who responded earlier got it. I just wanted to clarify my viewpoint.
