I am curious about why you don't care for Reunion Blues bags anymore. (I have two, but I have never tried any different bags, and I wonder what I am missing.)
If the bells stick up too high, why not just have the shoulder strap adjustment moved up on the bag to move the bag down on you back? I would think that someone who sews tents and other backpacking gear could move the straps in a few minutes.
