You could get leather pads put on, they are usually custom made. I'm getting leather put on my St. Pete soon because the plating is coming off where I hold it. I don't know if this is what your thinking of though, its not gonna protect very much from getting bumped around. You will probably have to check around with professionals (your local brass instrument specialist will probably know) to find someone near you who can do it.
