I played "Chicago" for a week in Memphis. I guess they don't count on running into too many tuba/bass doublers on the road, anymore. In Memphis, and in most cities on the road tour, they use a bass AND a tuba.

To assist with my concentration (you CANNOT "slouch" while doing that show!) I payed a LOT of attention to the length, attack, and decay of the notes that I had to play in different bass lines on different numbers. There are actually a couple of tuba solos, but, of course, mostly bass lines. The MOST difficult thing about playing the show was the fact that the music stands and 100% IMMOVABLE (They wanted COMPLETE control over the "look".) and the visual angle down to the music vs. the visual angle down to the conductors baton did NOT overlap.

Like you said, the music was great and, from my view at least, the "scenery" in that show was excellent, too.
