Personal preference. If you knew how rough the inside surface of even the finest tuba was, you'd realize that plating versus lacquer has far less to do with the sound of a tuba than the variations during assembly. Get what you like. If you love silver and a lacquer one plays better for you, get the lacquer one. Play it for a few years, do whatever modifications to make if feel and play even better for you, then have it silver plated. 20 years later, have it overhauled and replated again. Plating or lacquer should be viewed as what you wear off instead of wearing through the brass of a horn you like.
