One other comment- If what you want is something very simple and
compact, the SONY DC-6 Pro recording walkman is a very high
quality piece. With a little stereo condensor mike like the Sony
ECM-909A, you can make wonderful recordings with a rig that pretty
much fits in a coat pocket.
