I have a comment regarding your old PT-7P. You said you owned a PT-7P a horn or two ago and liked the 2165 much better. If your 7P was made more than 1-2 years ago, then it probably was a dog. The 7P didn't become a great instrument until just recently. It has had several design changes and is a very good instrument now. If you get a chance to try out a more up to date one, then give it a go.

As far as the question of 2165 vs VMI Neptune, they are different concepts. The 2165 is more "American", while the Neptune is more "German". What does this mean? Well, it is difficult to describe, but the 2165, to my ears, is more of a howitzer, while the VMI Neptune would be more of a large slightly drunk elephant. What does that mean? I ain't a poet, but that analogy means something to me. ;)
