As for the mouthpiece, you could simulate an unturned shank by wrapping one or more layers of paper around the shank before inserting it. The paper will get soggy and fall apart after a while, but you should be able to tell if the extra thickness helps the intonation.

As for a tuning stick with a quick release, if the slide is working smoothly enough to allow using it, get a nylon, pop-on ball-joint from a hobby shop (the kind that sells radio-controlled airplanes and cars). You can pop these on and off with finger pressure, and they are cheap enough to replace if they wear.
