There are MUCH better pieces than the Frank Lynn Payne. This piece was one of a few that were 'experimental' in the early 70's, and was written for 4 low-pitched tubas. As such, it has a very 'muddy' quality about it. Since then, the 'standard' tuba quartet is 2 euphoniums and 2 tubas. For this combination, there is a VAST library. There is much literature that is challenging and interesting for you, as a performer, and at the same time, listenable to the audience. There are MANY transcriptions, but I prefer music that was written FOR the tuba ensemble. Having said THAT, there are some wonderful transcriptions of choral literature that are exquisite for tuba quartet. Among them "Ave Verum Corpus" by Mozart and "Locust Iste" by Bruckner.
