The Nirschl that I'm playing on is most definitely between the 4/4 and the 6/4. It is quite a bit huskier in sound than the current 4/4 yet not quite as big as the York copy.

I like my horn. It has taken me a while to adjust to it as a good horn for solo and quintet playing, but it works just fine. Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks! I love the sound of the horn as a big ensemble instrument.

I'm unaware if Walter is still making this instrument. I'll defer to the guys at Custom for that information. If you do get a chance to play one of these, I think that you'll enjoy it and you'll find that it will compare very favorably with other 5/4 horns on the market.
