Some claim that gold feels "slicker" than silver. But if you're having a mouthpiece replated, see if you can get it done in one of the hard gold alloys by a firm that does plating for the electronics industry. I believe that one of the alloys is known as "auracine" or some such.
Me, I'm still waiting for someone to make mouthpieces with PVD Titanium Nitride coatings. Looks like gold, is harder than silicon carbide, and is completely inert.
