I was cleated in the corner of the mouth in a baseball game last year, which
has lead that side to be slightly weak, and thus I have been forced to become an expert
in this area because if I'm not careful, the muscles on the other side of my embouchure
start to hurt. Here are my three major rules:
1. Warm up VERY slowly
2. Never practice challenging music for more than 45 minutes at a time (take about a fifteen minute break)
3. ALWAYS warm down when you are done practicing (buzzing on the mp, playing long tones in the lower register, etc.)
I can't guarantee anything, but this is what works for me.
