Absolutely not! I won my job owning my Rudy 4/4 CC and a Yamaha 321S Eb. My opinion of audition strategy is that you go in with the 4/4 CC and whatever small tuba (Eb or F) and show you have a sound and all of the fundamentals. In the later rounds, perhaps even rounds that include playing with the orchestra, you pull out the big horn as icing on the cake. This just shows you can be flexible and have many different sounds at your disposal. But I'm pretty sure nobody ever won a job just because they could play really loud with a really big tuba. Everybody has to prove to the committee that they are an accomplished musician who has command of the basics before you ever get to the point of pulling out the big horn in the finals.

My opinion for what its worth...
