I had an old sousa with an unlacquered brass bell, and I found that carnauba wax protected the shine for about 3 or 4 weeks. Several people I know use carnauba on their unlacquered horns. I think it's great that you are so interested in your horn and how to treat it the right way. Don't let all the Brasso criticism get you down. Once, a colleague of mine lent someone a sousaphone with a gold-plated inner bell, ( not just gold colored, I mean real gold!). The person who borrowed it felt he would be helpful and polished it,.....with Bon Ami cleanser, (something like Ajax or Comet)!! It took all the tarnish away...and all of the gold plating too! Talk about an abrasive musician.
