Far be it from me to contradict Jay, but I do believe that the Horn in F is indeed, the same length as an F tuba. The horn is capable of very low notes that would not be possible otherwise. In addition, the middle range of the horn (middle C up to the 3rd line B) operates on the harmonics of the THIRD octave above the fundamental, not the second.
