B&S was the sign for "Blechblaß und Signal Instrumente" (Brass and Signal instruments, where Signal does point towards instruments with military and hunting applications).
VMI is Vogtländische Musik Instrumente (or is it Industrie). A post-wall-fall name.
B&S is now owned by the Wenzel Meinl company. At at least by the same holding company.
Once upon a time I found the B&S/VMI web site. Badly constructed, without much real information.
