There is a church that has held an "ala Moravian" Christmas Eve service and has hired our brass quintet for at least a dozen (maybe 15) years.
One year, they had candles stuck in a Yule log balanced on the choir loft divider half-wall (behind the brass quintet. Towards the end of the service, the candles burned down and the cedar log began to crackle and pop. Since all of the choir members and ministers were wearing robes and the other brass players and congregation just decided to stare at it, I seemed to be the only person who was willing to put the fire out.
no "hero" story certainly...just a "weird" story.
