I'll probably start a real squabble here... but... the conductor is NOT alway right! We are speaking of an all volunteer, unpaid community band where people of all ages and skill levels come to play in hopefully a reasonably fun environment. The answer I am looking for is probably just an expansion of The Golden Rule. I've pretty much had it with hurt feelings among members of the band because of the crassness of our acting director. Rather to lose him, I would rather plug in some guidelines that are benificial to all of members, including the director. We have several good conductors in the band but they would rather play. That's what they come for. What we have prsently is a volunteer director who insists on forcing his ideas (many times wrong) on the group in an effort to exercise TOTAL control.
