The problem with this theory is the fact that the price hikes aren't actually happening at the manufacturer in the not quite so hypothetical reality. The end result is that unsaid exclusive marketer can charge what it wants and actually drive the number of individual sales down in an effort to drive its profits up. The manufacturer prices haven't changed much in the same time period and is really being hurt by this exclusive marketing agreement. Odd, eh?
