I was in a similar predicament in high school, but MY director made the decision. She ended up getting a King 4 valve detachable bell...it SUCKED.
I recently bought a Miraphone 186 5v CC, and man, for the money, it is a STEAL. I have the best tuba out of my whole studio, and everyone is envious. I would say a 186 is a good investment!
