There IS quite a bit of room to pull the main slide on Mirafone tubas, and some of them actually (late '60's) used to come with very elongated main tuning slide crooks (that made them play slightly flat).

Surely it wouldn't be too much of a "sin" to jam a 2" too short BRAND NEW Jupiter bell on an otherwise "trash" tuba, and then stick on a long main slide crook (original main slide crooks are usually smashed to bits too, anyway), particularly considering that these instruments are not often played by "artistes".

Practicality rules, in this case, IMO. I say get them back up-and-running affordably. (At least try ONE and see how it works out...or did you?)
