I started playing tuba when I was 8 - BBb since that is what the schools had. I switched to CC when I bought my second horn (used, of course) at 16. It took me a while (a few weeks? months? I don't quite remember) to get used to CC, but think the switch was worth it. By the way, I've been playing that same horn (the CC) for the past 16 years (or so) and have found no reason or desire to switch to BBb.
