Just for clarity - on euphonium, a Boosey & Hawkes. Mr. Lambert was principal trombonist at the time. Lots of people were fooled, the sound is so full and dark. Many of us thought it was Mr. Jacobs on the Alex F he was using much of the time that season at Reiner's insistance. He did play his York in Pictures, and that's certainly him playing the Bydlo tutti. With all respect to Mr. Jacobs who did two great Bydlos on other recordings as noted, Mr. Lambert, taking Reiner's incredibly slow tempo, and making his own individual expression with it, with a huge dynamic range, remains unsurpassed for me. The fillers on the CD, Russian potboilers, are indispensible to anyone who wants to these warhorse played with zero pretentiousness, and mondo virtuosity.
