When I was a High School band director, I used to pray for concerned parents like you. I solved most kids problems because someone cared and you obviously care. If the mouthpiece he is using is not pressing raw brass against his face but it is fully silver plated, plastic is best. If there is brass rubbing his face, as he plays, try a simple silver plated one first, then plastic if an intact silver mouthpiece doesn't work.

As for the juicing up, try to make sure that the mouthpiece is pointing down hill as he plays. Try to adjust the bits and the goose neck so that the liquid will flow in to the horn, rather than back on his face. Liquid in the horn will be easily purged through the water key.
