Well, I'll tell you what, I see how the musical value of Sousa's main gig (March) isn't the best. BBBBUUUUTTTT............
The thing is, you don't hear the audience clapping along with a Nelhybel piece or a Grundman piece (Well sometimes Grundman). You don't see on the Fourth of July Posters, A Night of Alfred Reed or David Holsinger (Thank God/Talk about someone who oughta just have written one tune*S*) You read about a night of fireworks whilest the band or orchestra plays "Stars and Stripes". The public relations behind music is what keeps the industry going and Sousa is a big name for the Audiences to flock to because his sound is, in a few special cases, AMERICAN. Ya know?? Also catchy and such.

I hope this gives you some GOOD food for thought.

Toodles
