I buy a horn because I like how it feels when I play. Of course it has to play in tune (which means you have to get used to the alternate fingerings/lipping/slide adjustments for each horn, but if you like the feel of the horn you will play so much more. I have a Conn recording bass that a guy gave to me (free)one day when I was mowing my lawn. It had been sitting in his garage for 10 years in its cases because it is so bulky he didn't like getting it out to practice. My Yamaha Eb is so easy to get out I practice that horn more than any other.
Bottom line--find a horn you can transport, enjoy playing, and learn to overcome its individual quirks. For what it's worth.
