You bring up some valid points. When I list horns for sale, I include salient features of the instrument. When a serious potential buyer inquires about the instrument, I'll always tell them, "5th partial flat" or "the horn plays good, but looks like crap" or other mitigating factors that would help them make an informed decision. The other thing for me as a horn seller is that I play EVERY HORN I sell with the symphony. Before I can sell something, I have to be convinced it is a good horn myself. The best advise I can give any horn buyer is: PLAY THE INSTRUMENT. Make sure it is going to suit YOUR needs and it makes the sound you want to make.
