Some large tuba bows actually are made by methods somewhat like the one you describe. Only that the halves are hammered into shape.
Looking down the stack and main bow of my Conn 26K lets me see the seams along the lenght axis of the tubing.
But I was not aware, that the well cleaned seams were soft soldered. Guess I will have to stay away from too hot a repertory!
