The Cerveny 601-5MR CC is one of the really good bargains in the tuba world. It is a huge instrument, and has a tone to match. The range of dynamics is especially impressive. It makes a great orchestral horn, but can be used effectively in smaller ensembles. It retains a very clear voice even in whisper-quiet passages. These Czech tubas have a reputation for thin, easily-dented metal. Thus, they are not practical for use in the school bandroom.
