Well, my guess is that the color you see is probably the brass underneath the silver plate that has worn away. You probably can't get rid of it. If not it could just be tarnish, so try some silver polish anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about it since nobody really sees the inside edges of you slides anyway. Good luck!
