Hi, everyone:
  Wow!
Thanks for all the responses! I've gotten some very nice emails, from a lot of you and I apreciate the warmth shown to a newbie by this community.
At the risk of being outbid, I'm gonna spill the beans on a horn on eBay that I am bidding on. (I hope the pictures work for you, they haven't worked on my `puter for two days, now). Put this item number into the browse window at ebay: 1448300827
It's a "Hawkes & Sons" Eb. Class A, "Sonorsus Profundo".
I can't see anything too beat-up about it, although the leadpipe might have a flat spot. Being as this is an ancestor of Besson Ebs, which everyone seems to have nice words for, is this a sensible horn to bid on? Boosey.com serial number search dates the horn at 1930. I think it's in pretty good shape for its age, regardless. My thinking is: Even if it needs a little work, if the bids stay as low as they are, it should be worth it, *if* it's going to result in a practical horn.
  What say you, worthys?
  Thanks. ;-)
Tim (yes, it's Tim, even though I'm Thomas. Not even my Mom can tell me why.)
