I can think of many that are as good if not much better than the NYP/Masur recording. I love the NYP but I am not a Masur fan by any means. I am just waiting around until Maazel steps up on the block and let's um "loose". The one Mahler 1 that stands out the most to me has got to be the Chicago/Tennstedt live recording(90) on EMI. Wow! Those cats play the sh"t out of it. One of my other favorites is the Boston/Ozawa on DG(70's). I have many Mahler 1's but these two stand out the most.
