I practised C fingerings on my Eb before I got a C. In effect I was transposing up a minor third. So I had to think like a "transposer" (i.e. a trumpet or horn player... they do lots of different transpositions doing their orchestral jobs).

I have a very good sense of pitch, but could handle this as long as I viewed it as "transposition". Believe me, it DID help to do this (play up a min 3rd on the Eb) i.e. it was very beneficial for when I got the C.

So on the Bb it would actually be simpler... just reading up one tone.
When you see a C two ledger lines below the staff you play a low Bb (open), and so on.

I did not use scales (because we ALL know those patterns automatically... or should) but rather I used easy/moderate sight reading, and some familiar stuff. I got out books I use with my (intermediate) students and played that stuff myself, transposing.

I recommend it!
