I play a note on my keyboard / piano and then try to sing it. After I can sing it in tune I play it. Then sing it an play again. Once I'm convinced I have it THEN I check the tuner. If I'm off I start over. I do this in order to get the pitch in my head. The tuba is just one of your many voices.
