It is interesting you brought this up. The horn player in our quintet has said she occasionally experiences the same thing I do. Her answer is that when the trumpet players are very well in tune, overtones are created that result in the ear drum buzzing. I do not know if this is scientifically possible, but our trumpet players like the thought of being perfectly in tune. What do you think? Meanwhile, I suppose I had better keep my ear plugs in ;^)
