Well, I played today for about an hour, and I was pretty good. I wasn't on fire in the same way as yesterday, but I am definitely getting back to where I was before my long break.
I'm not really sure why you questioned my motivation, but I'll tell you that I play simply because making great music makes me happy. I play for days like yesterday, when I can do whatever I want on the tuba and there is no difference between what I want to hear and what I am actually playing; those days provide all the motivation I need.
I realized when making the post that I was going to receive a wide range of responses (due to the unique experiences of each poster), but I wasn't looking for advice or a strategy to emulate. Much more than that, I'm just want to hear how other people go about taking time off and how taking time off benefits their playing.
