I have dealt with the same problem. As noted in an earlier post on a different thread, I have experienced an ear drum buzzing when playing in quintet. Because this only seems to occur in my left ear and due to the problem you previously described, I haved compromised by placing the ear plug in only my left ear. It has stopped the buzzing and allowed me the opportunity to hear what is going on with at least a little clarity. I don't know what sort of medical benefits, if any, this has afforded me. Nonetheless, I don't have to deal with the annoying buzz going on. Great point!
