Joe is right about cooking oil. There are lots of lubricating oils out there that have been engineered to be stable and long-lasting over a wide range of temperatures. You only need to find one that has the right thickness for the job. Shop around a little, and take a look at silicone oils or even ordinary 3-in-1 household oil or sewing machine oil. The trouble with mixing two different kinds is that the lighter oil will evaporate, leaving you with a sticky goo. It's better to find a pure oil that has the right consistency for the job.
