As a middle School Band and Orchestra teacher, I have seen the results of "cooking" oil in the valves(among other home fixes). As mentioned in other replies, NO GOOD.You didn't mention what kind of valve is having the problem, piston/rotary, each has it's own set of possible solutions.Best to take the horn in and have it checked by a reputable repair shop/technician.The "bent" stem is a common problem as is weak or the wrong valve spring in pistons.Rotary valves with all of the different "planes" of movement need to have all of the "pivot" points in alignment for the valve to function well(or the spring may be weak).
Good luck, be carefull,
Dave H
