I played both the HB and the WN. Both were nice, but in my opinion, I thought the
Nirschl was a little more agile and had a warmer sound. I think the Hirsbrunner "Grand Orchestral" may have been slightly darker in tone, but not quite as warm and vibrant in sound as the Nirschl. The Nirschl, to my ears, sounded a little fatter and broader in sound, as well as being very clear in sound. It seemed to have a little more color and resonance. When I played it, I could actually feel the horn resonate. It was like it was alive. For a 6/4 horn, it was rather lightweight. I'd be happy to own either a HB or WN. Both are nice kick-(AT)ss tubas.
