It is pretty common on smaller instrument mouthpieces, like trombone, horn and trumpet. In fact I have a set of Giardinelli mouthpieces for my t-bone/euph. But it is not too common on tuba mouthpeices. Actually I use it in the opposite way however, meaning that I only have one rim but use different cups to alter the sound or response for different playing situations. I have one rim size but 5 different bottoms to fit euph, large bore tenor bone and small bore tenor bone and shallow, medium and deep cup depths as well.
