I have a 6/4 CC and and large F (both Meinl-Westons).

I wish I had a 4/4 CC. I love my 2165 but would like a 4/4 for quintet, brass band, general playing, etc.

The big tuba is great for most orchestral playing that would call for CC (and you can use your bass tuba {Eb or F} for lighter stuff). And I have played mine in regional orchestras where the strings were not of the Philadelphia Orchestra variety and it has worked well.

That said, a well made 4/4 is a better horn for practicing tuba playing because you don't have to work as hard. It's nice to have for auditions just for the possibilities and because it will be easier to play.

I definitely know tuba players who only have a 6/4 and an F, but my advice would be to have a great 4/4 and a great F and then worry about the 6/4. The 6/4 sound may be better, but the versatility, facility, and ease of use of the 4/4 is more important.
