New stuff always takes the place of old, no matter how useful.
I bought an amazing like-new 1974 Fender Jazz bass in 1976 for $200: The guy wanted one o' them new "headless" basses from Japan.
I bought a Gitane Super Course French racing bike outfitted with top-of-the-line Italian hardware for $50 in 1979. The guy wanted a new Japanese "mountain bike" (I suppose to ascend Mt. Beale Street ;^) here in Memphis).
Today, when someone who works in a guitar store catches a glance of my bass they say "wow" and the same thing happens at bike shops when I take the bike in for service.
Quality stuff that works well doesn't stay "out of style" very long.
